my education

Education is, for me, a lifelong process. Although university and I didn't really click the first time, I have recently gone back to school to retrain myself in web design as well as pick up on, or revive some of the skills I developed at OCAD but didn't pursue in a direct way. I am also a huge fan of workshops and seminars and through association with WIFT, CWC, and U of T, I attend as many as I can in both broadcast and internet subject areas.

OCA(D)

I got my AOCA from the Ontario College of Art. My faculty doesn't exist anymore; it was called Photoelectric Arts and we were considered to be even weirder than the experimental arts students. I took things like electronics (class normally held in the donut shop at Queen and John), video art, installation, film, and computer graphics, such as they were. Some highlights: I got really into programming database-like structures in Hypercard, and I cut my own negs in all my film projects. Mac Classic was state of the art, and although that's nuthin' compared to today, I did get some experience working in programs like Quark Express.

U of T

Full circle: I'm taking a certificate in Internet Business and Technology at The University of Toronto. Courses are broadly based but thorough: Project Management, Website Implementation and Management, Intro to flash, XML, HTML. I have found out that I love learning to write code, I'm penetrating the mysteries of Photoshop, and the even greater mysteries of Dreamweaver.

WIFT

I try to keep connected to the broadcast industry at large, through the various workshops and seminars that are offered in Toronto. I've done many, manysuch workshops through Women in Film and Television: Independent Producer workshops, weekend-long intensive workshops on the convergence of broadcast and internet technology and more importantly, content. Workshops on conflict resolution and people management. I do as much as I can afford, they inform my work and inspire me to expand my horizons. I have also recently joined the CWC (Canadian Women in Communications), and have begun to attend events offered through AIMS (the Association of Internet Marketing and Sales).
